Granny Basketball

Saturday I did some I had wanted to do for several yrs and had never been able to.
I went to a Granny Basketball game!
There is an actual league!
It is primarily in Iowa but is in other states too.
It is a six on six game with the rules of 1920's and 30's.
It is played on a 3-court floor
one court of forwards, one for centers, and one for guard. The centers can not cross the line on either side but can pass the ball from either line.
Players MUST be atleast 50 and there are players in the league in their 80's and 90's!!!
They also have adjusted some of the rules to compliment the phyical ablitlies of the players.
Uniform rule is VERY strict!
sailor collars, middy blouses and bloomers. NO skin can show other than face, neck and lower arms and hands!
NO RUNNING! ( It will be called like a travel)
NO JUMPING, one foot must be on the floor at all times (Another whistle call)
if someone falls  there is a whistle and you will hear
" GRANNY DOWN"

These are from the game before my friend played

The announcer, announces the teams just like in a REAL game :O)

GO PAT !!!

The "Centers" waiting at their line

Got your curiosity up??

Eagle Scout

Saturday was a special day for my cousin's son, Taylor. He became an Eagle Scout and was honored at a ceremony Saturday afternoon. It is a VERY difficult acheivement  and we are so proud of him!

One of his last projects was to plan and orchestrate the building of this playground at
their church in Ames. He went around to local businesses and received donations, for supplies
then recruited volunteers and over saw the building of the playground.
Quite a task for a boy the turned 18 on Sunday!!

It is ALWAYS fun when the cousins get together and this was NO exception!

Freedom Rock

The Frredom Rock is just a little out of my way when going back to my folk's after spending the day with Myron's dad. I has seen it several yrs ago but I knew Bubba was getting a new one ready for Memorial Day, so decided to stop and check it out.
It is another GREAT one!

If you get a chance it is right off of I-80 at the Greenfield exit.

This year Bubba is featuring the Fighting Sullivan Brothers
If you haven't heard of them you need to Google them.
They were 5 brothers from Waterloo

The rock is not quite finished yet but that kinda made it special to see it as a work in progress... Will have to stop by after Memorial Day.

Here are pictures of the rock from the past.

Champion Sunday

Sunday was our "Champion" Sunday. Honoring the bus riders in the morning service,
and the workers in the evening service.

The Bus choir sang in the morning
Brought tears to our eyes as they sang
"Thank You for giving to the Lord"
